Upgrading bathrooms in Thomastown, Epping and Mill Park: newer homes and established streets

The northern suburbs from Thomastown and Lalor through to Epping, Mill Park and South Morang combine established streets with many newer homes and estates. That means two very different bathroom projects are common: personalising a newer bathroom, and fully renovating an older one. This guide covers both, with links to our showroom page for Thomastown, Epping and Mill Park.

Personalising a newer bathroom

Many newer homes come with simple, standard fittings. You can change the look a lot without touching the tiles or waterproofing.

Swap the tapware in one finish

Replace the basin mixer, shower, bath tapware, towel rails and toilet roll holder together, in one finish such as matte black or brushed gold. Before buying, check whether existing wall mixers have a body that the new trim can fit, or whether the body needs replacing. Our team can help you check.

Change the vanity and mirror

A new vanity in timber or a fluted finish, with an LED mirror, transforms the room. Match the vanity width to the existing plumbing where possible.

Add a feature

Tiling one wall behind the vanity or bath with a mosaic or marble look adds personality. This is smaller work than retiling the whole room.

Renovating an older bathroom

Established homes in Thomastown and Lalor often have original bathrooms. A full renovation is the chance to fix layout, storage, waterproofing and lighting in one go.

  1. Book a free measure.
  2. Decide on the layout, keeping plumbing positions if you can.
  3. Choose floor and wall tiles, then the vanity, tapware and shower, then the bath and accessories.
  4. Get a quote for products, plus installation by our qualified trades if you would like it.
  5. Order in sequence so products arrive before each trade needs them.

The renovation planning checklist covers each decision.

Outdoor areas and alfresco

Many homes in Epping, Mill Park and South Morang have an alfresco area off the living room. Tiles rated for outdoor use with a suitable slip rating are essential. Indoor and outdoor ranges let you carry one look from inside to out. Read outdoor tiles and slip ratings.

Laundries and kitchens

A new sink and kitchen mixer, or a laundry sink with a pull out spray, round out an upgrade. Our splashback guide helps with kitchen tiles.

Choosing finishes for a newer home

Newer homes often have neutral tiles and white benchtops, which pair with almost any tapware finish. Matte black gives contrast, brushed gold adds warmth, and brushed nickel stays subtle. Look at the finishes already in the kitchen and laundry so the house feels consistent. Our tapware finishes guide explains how each wears.

Accessories checklist

  • Towel rail or heated towel rail
  • Hand towel rail or ring near the basin
  • Toilet roll holder
  • Robe hooks behind the door and near the shower
  • Shower shelf or niche for bottles

Choose them all in the same finish as the tapware, and plan their positions before tiling so there is support in the wall.

Before you buy

Take photos of your current bathroom, measure the vanity width and the distance from the wall to the toilet waste, and note the tap hole positions. Bring these to the showroom and our team can help you choose products that fit first time.

We can also arrange delivery Australia-wide or have your order ready for pickup.

Common questions

Can I replace tapware without retiling?

Often yes. Basin mixers and many accessories can be swapped easily. Wall mixers depend on whether the new trim fits the existing body in the wall.

What is the quickest way to update a newer bathroom?

Change the tapware and accessories in one finish, replace the vanity and mirror, and consider a single feature wall.

Do you offer a free measure in Epping and South Morang?

Yes. We offer a free measure across Thomastown, Lalor, Epping, Mill Park and South Morang.
