Getting here

Most people come east along Bell Street or Murray Road, then north to Reservoir. Times are approximate and depend on traffic.

Bathrooms in terraces, period homes and postwar houses

Brunswick and Coburg have many narrow period homes and terraces, while Pascoe Vale, Fawkner and Glenroy have a lot of postwar brick and weatherboard houses and units. The common challenge is fitting a modern bathroom into a modest footprint.

• Narrow rooms: a space saving vanity or wall hung vanity keeps the floor clear, and a semi recessed basin saves depth.
• Character tiles: hexagon and finger mosaics and gloss wall tiles suit period homes, while terrazzo looks work in postwar houses.
• Showers over baths: a back to wall bath with a rail shower is a practical family layout in a small room.

Laundries and kitchens

Many homes here have a laundry tucked behind the kitchen or in a lean to. A laundry sink, a matching mixer and a durable matt floor tile can transform it. For kitchens, see our splashback tiles guide and kitchen range.
