Preston homes, streets and the drive to Reservoir

Preston is our closest neighbour. From Preston Market, Bell Street or the Gilbert Road shops, the showroom at 214 Broadway, Reservoir is about 3 to 5 km north, around 5 to 10 minutes by car along High Street or Gilbert Road. From the Northland end of Murray Road, come up Plenty Road and across. By train, Reservoir is the next station after Regent on the Mernda line, so you can come from Bell, Preston or Regent stations in a few minutes and walk to the showroom.

Edwardian and interwar weatherboards, and Californian bungalows

The streets between High Street and St Georges Road, and around Gilbert Road, have many Edwardian and interwar weatherboards and Californian bungalows. Their bathrooms are often at the back of the house with a separate toilet, a timber subfloor and a single window. A bungalow bathroom suits gloss wall tiles, a small format or mosaic floor and tapware in chrome or brushed nickel. Timber subfloors also need the right waterproofing and a solid base before tiling, which our qualified trades can quote for.

Postwar brick veneers and cream brick homes

Much of Preston, especially east toward Plenty Road and Darebin Creek, is 1950s and 1960s brick veneer and cream brick homes. Many still have original pastel tiles and a separate toilet. A common upgrade is to keep the layout, which saves on plumbing, and refresh everything else: 600x600mm matt porcelain on the floor, lighter wall tiles, a vanity with more storage and a shower rail in place of an old bath and shower over.

Units, flats and townhouses

Preston has plenty of 1960s and 1970s walk up flats and a growing number of townhouses near Bell Street, Murray Road and High Street. In a flat, the owners corporation may need to approve work on wet areas, so check before you book trades. Townhouse ensuites suit large format 600x1200mm tiles, wall hung vanities and LED mirrors to make a narrow room feel bigger.

Bathroom renovations in Preston

Preston homes range from older weatherboards and brick houses to postwar homes, units and new townhouses, and many still have original bathrooms. A typical renovation with us follows five steps:

  1. Free measure of the room, including windows, doors and existing plumbing.
  2. Showroom selection of tiles, vanity, tapware, shower, bath, toilet and accessories.
  3. Quote for products, plus installation by our qualified trades if you want it. Installation is always quoted for your project.
  4. Ordering in sequence so the mixers and vanity arrive before rough in and tiles arrive before the tiler.
  5. Installation and handover by licensed trades for plumbing, waterproofing and electrical work.

Tapware and showers

We stock tapware from Phoenix Tapware, Meir and Modern National. Compare basin mixers, wall mixers, rail showers and shower sets in finishes such as matte black, brushed nickel, brushed gold, gunmetal and chrome. If you are unsure which finish will last best in your home, read how to choose tapware finishes.

Tiles for Preston bathrooms, kitchens and laundries

For floors, a matt porcelain in 600x600mm is a reliable choice in bathrooms and laundries. For walls, 300x600mm tiles, mosaics and marble looks are popular. Outdoor areas need tiles with a suitable slip rating, see outdoor tiles and our slip ratings guide. Tiles cover porcelain, ceramic and mosaic ranges and are call to order.

Vanities, baths and toilets

Choose a wall hung vanity for a compact ensuite or a floor standing vanity for extra storage, both from Otti, Aulic and ADP. Add a freestanding bath, a toilet suite and an LED mirror to finish the room. Our vanity size guide helps you pick the right width.
