Planning a feature wall
A feature wall works best when there is one clear focal point and calmer tiles around it. Good spots are the wall behind the vanity, the back of a shower or niche, a kitchen splashback or a powder room.
- Pick one hero: a patterned mosaic or shaped tile, then keep the other walls and floor simple.
- Plan the edges: decide where the feature starts and stops, and how it finishes at corners and ceilings.
- Light it: a wall light or LED mirror brings out texture. See LED mirrors.
- Care: many feature mosaics are natural marble and need sealing.

Buying help
Where should a feature wall go in a bathroom?
Usually the first wall you see, the wall behind the vanity, or the back wall of the shower or niche.
Can feature tiles go in a shower?
Yes, on walls, if the tile suits wet areas and the area is waterproofed correctly. Natural stone should be sealed.
How do I stop a feature wall looking busy?
Use one patterned tile and keep the rest simple, with a grout and floor tile that pick up a colour from the feature.
