Where mosaics work best

Mosaics come on mesh sheets, so they bend to follow the fall of a shower floor to the waste and wrap niches, curves and rounded vanities. The extra grout lines add grip underfoot. On walls, mosaics add texture behind a basin, bath or cooktop.

Popular mosaic shapes

  • Hexagon and penny round: classic floors for bungalow and Edwardian bathrooms.
  • Finger and stack: vertical lines that make a low ceiling feel taller.
  • Herringbone, fishscale and feather: statement patterns for feature walls.

Care

Many of our mosaics are natural stone, such as honed or tumbled marble. Natural stone usually needs sealing after installation and again over time. Porcelain and glass mosaics generally do not. Grout colour changes the look a lot, so see our grout guide and the feature wall tiles guide.

Buying help

Are mosaic tiles good for shower floors?

Yes. Small mosaics follow the fall to the waste and the grout lines add grip.

Do stone mosaics need sealing?

Natural stone mosaics usually need sealing after installation and from time to time after that. Porcelain and glass mosaics generally do not.

How are mosaics sold?

Mosaics come as mesh backed sheets. We work out how many sheets you need from your measurements or a free measure.

Can mosaics go on a feature wall behind a vanity?

Yes. It is one of the most popular places for a mosaic, often paired with a plain tile on the other walls.
